Big fireworks shot with Canon 1DS Mark III

This shot has a hint of the horizon but the big fireworks are filling the sky with color.

The lake and the city are shown with fireworks

This shot was taken with the digital view camera and while is not as flashy as some, highlights the city skyline and shows the lake with dock in the foreground.

The July 4th celebration goes on across the country but in San Antonio it is held at Woodlawn Lake, courtesy of the San Antonio Parks Foundation.  This was a two camera job, so my assistant Mirka came with me and we took the digital view camera plus the Canon 1DS Mark III as a backup. We got an incredible location thanks to Parks Foundation help and the only variable was the height of the fireworks. I wanted to get the water as well as the fireworks and we would have to wait and see.

As the show started, it was obvious that the view camera needed a wider lens, so I did what I could to get shots and we set the Canon up with its widest lens and between the two cameras we got some great shots. Next year will be even better and while the celebration is over, it is nice to see the two best shots of the night.

Pioneer Flour Mill, Blue Star Arts Complex with San Antonio Riverwalk

The Riverwalk as it meanders by the Blue Star and the Pioneer Flour Mill.

The San Antonio Riverwalk is undergoing significant improvements by the Blue Star Arts Complex, which is the home to Kevin G Saunders Photography.

This shot features the Riverwalk, has the Blue Star building and the iconic Pioneer Flour Mill in the background. We are getting requests to take portraits in this scene and thought it would be nice to share.

Bicycle riders on South Alamo Street

The Three Amigos

Bicycle riding on South Alamo Street is much different than on the North Side. Besides the lack of helmets and cycling gear, the bikes are a bit different too. The enjoyment level is the same.

Since moving into the new studio at 107 Blue Star in April, we are finally settling in and here are some recent shots of the main shooting space. The studio is designed to be very flexible and we are marketing it for rental to photographers and agencies. We have 12′ black and white seamless backdrops in the back, plus 9′ colored seamless backdrops in two other locations. We have a great white wall for shooting fashion and just added a “brick” backdrop. The ceiling height is 13′.

Kevin G Saunders Photography is your resource for high quality imagery for architecture, products and people.  Thanks for looking!

I have been planning a photographic website for some time and now I am happy to introduce my new combo blog and gallery site! Photography has been a part of my life since the mid 1960′s when my dad introduced me to his Leica camera. I learned how to shoot a fully manual camera as a child and as such have always included the technical aspects with the artistic ones.

In high school I was a member of an Explorer Scout troop attached to the Amarillo Globe News. The crusty old photojournalists taught us the ropes of shooting medium format film, developing and darkroom skills and of course, the techniques of shooting pictures for a living. It seems that the journalism classes in school were almost a step back as we had such incredible access to the lives of the pros.

I now shoot commercially for my custom bicycle studio, shoot events like triathlons and marathons and fulfil my artistic vision by photographing models for art and figure studies. Since my anatomy studies in college, I have always been fascinated by the beauty of the female form and am constantly looking for incredible shapes and curves. This served me well as an industrial designer and all this training comes back home as I create photographic art for you to enjoy.

Again, welcome!
